Since our launch in 2011 Bolin Webb has exclusively used Gillette Blades to complete our razors. The original R1 razor was designed to hold Gillette Mach 3 Blades, while the X1 razor holds Gillette Fusion 5 Blades. The decision to partner with Gillette rather than the likes of Wilkinson Sword or Bic came down to three factors: shave quality, availability and personal preference.
Availability and Recognition
Gillette has been manufacturing blades for over 100 years. The now world renowned brand has established itself as a world leader in blade and shaving innovation. This recognition gives Gillette the benefit of universal acceptance over competitors.
Gillette men’s razor blades are currently available in over 200 countries worldwide. Bolin Webb has always looked to address the needs of international travellers and only Gillette can meet task of providing razor blades anywhere in world.
Shave Quality and Performance
The high-quality blades are designed for repeated use and can comfortably last 10 shaves. The Gillette Fusion 5 blade also incorporates a unique precision trimmer blade on the back of the cartridge for shaping a beard, moustache or sideburns.
The blades are housed in a plastic casing along with a lubrication strip and microfins. These features help to lock moisture into the shave, reducing irritation and prevent cuts to the skin. Read more in our recent blog – How to Avoid Shaving Rash.
Derrick Webb founded Bolin Webb with the aim to bring design excellence to shaving. Maximising the experience of each element of the shave. Derrick realised that rather than trying to develop a new blade, it was better to incorporate the proven success of the top performing blades already available.
Personally, Derrick has always championed the quality of the Gillette Mach 3 blade. It has been his razor of choice since its launch in 1998. And while Bolin Webb has many ambitions ultimately step one was to create a razor that Derrick wanted to use.
